It was a match made in Heaven. Dog breeders call it a 'nick' breeding, a pairing between two dogs whose DNA combines well to produce real quality pups. When Charly met Poppy it was love at first sight. CH Salemi Charly, brought to the USA from Hungary, from a pairing of European to Russian bloodlines, was to prove invaluable to the gene pool... which welcomed a healthy, straight legged male with new blood to the Havana Silk Dog, to carry on the line of dogs free from chondrodysplasia. On Dec 4, 1999, Poppy whelped 7 vigorous, shiny puppies.

Posy was born with a mind of her own...an alpha bitch from birth. This pack personality shows in her interactions with people and other dogs. She's confident, calm and mellow. When new people come to visit, Posy will jump on the couch and lie down with her forelegs draped over their leg and people think she's just the sweetest thing but what she is really doing is claiming ownership. 
She is very much a laidback pack leader, only wading in when the hooligans are out of control and then, it takes her a very short time to restore order. Posy is the only one of my dogs who went out to show with a pro handler. Why? Because she just wouldn't show for me. And there we were at a show in Salem, VA and Posy met John Roberts and fell head over heels in love with him. She left with John that day and came home a Champion 2 months later, having taken her first BOB from the puppy class over Nationally ranked Specials.

Bred to stud dogs carefully selected to complement her strengths, Posy has produced a number of healthy, typey puppies who have enriched the lives of their owners. Several of her pups have remained here at Elfin and all have achieved success in the show ring as well as bring joy to our lives as endearing pets. Posy, a Certified Havana Silk Dog™ is now mostly retired and will spend the rest of her life ruling the roost in Goochland! In Feb 2008, Posy finished her HSDAA Championship from the Veteran Bitch class, handled by my 88 year young mother, Pearl.
